An intersection along Lake Jackson is closed while police investigate a fatal crash involving several military vehicles.

According to the Sebring Police Department, the scene of the crash is at U.S. 27 and Hammock Road. Officers say three National Guard tactical cargo trucks were headed north on 27 when the rear-most truck failed to stop in time at a red light and slammed into the middle truck.

The driver of the third truck was killed.  A passenger had to be extricated with serious injuries, police said. Three other people were taken to local hospitals.

The intersection may remain closed through the evening.  Drivers are urged to avoid the area.

Police say the trucks – described as Palletized Load System vehicles, which are battlefield versions of tractor-trailers – involved in the crash were assigned to a National Guard unit out of Miami.

No identities have been released.
