The driver of a semi involved in a deadly traffic accident on August 21, has been cited for Misdemeanor Motor Vehicle Homicide.

Police say Robert J. Richmond, 69, was driving his Peterbilt semi westbound on Interstate 80 when he failed to notice traffic had slowed. His truck hit the rear of a 2013 Toyota Prius.

Joan R. Ocampo-Yambing, 19, was a passenger in the Prius and died at the scene. Five others were transported with serious injuries.

After the collision with the Prius, the front of the semi-truck collided with the rear-end of a Chrysler Sebring. This collision forced the front-end of the Sebring into the rear-end of a "roll off" trailer being pulled by a 2017 Freightliner semi-truck. Both occupants of the Sebring were pinned underneath the Peterbilt semi-truck.

The crash happened at 9:56 a.m. and traffic on westbound Interstate 80 at and near the crash scene was diverted along the inside and outside shoulders until 1:52 p.m.
