isted heavy equipment distributor PT United Tractors (UT) is set to expand its commercial vehicles sales amid a whopping rise in demand.

The company held the licenses for Japan's UD Trucks and Sweden's Scania but could not yet meet the market demand, which had increased by 91 percent in 2017, UT marketing director Loudy Irwanto Ellias said in Jakarta on Friday.

Therefore, this year, it aims to sell at least 1,000 Scania trucks and 1,500 UD trucks, an increase from 836 units and 700 units sold in 2017, respectively.

"We believe that as the development of infrastructure expands to the outer regions, the demand will expand," Loudy said on Friday at the Gaikindo Indonesia International Commercial Vehicle Expo (GIICOMVEC).

To maximize sales, UT would also introduce a new Scania hybrid truck model in July, he said, adding that the company would orientate toward more environmentally-friendly vehicle models in the future.

"We will also continue improving our after sales services as well as provide spare parts to Indonesia's more remote areas," he said.

UT managed to book Rp 7.4 trillion in net profit in 2017,  a 48 percent increase from RP 5 trillion the previous year. According to the company's website, construction machinery was the biggest contributor to the result, followed by mining contractors and mining companies. (bbn)
