MATSAPHA – It was early Christmas for looters as one of the streets in Matsapha Industrial Sites turned from being busy to boozy.

This was after crates of booze toppled from a truck that was making a U-turn near KaSipho Block Yard in Matsapha. The incident took place yesterday at around 10am.

A source close to the matter said the truck, which belongs to HDJ Transporters, a company based in North West Province, South Africa, was carrying crates of Castle Lite 660ml and it was going to make a delivery at Swaziland Beverages.
He said when the driver arrived at Swaziland Beverages, the security told him to go via the first street road and come back to join the queue of trucks coming into the company.

“The driver made a U-turn near KaSipho Block Yard but unfortunately, the crates of beer from the big trailer toppled and fell into the road,” the source said.
He said the loud crash of the crates of beers attracted the attention of people working around the complex and surrounding areas, who could not resist the temptation of helping themselves to the beverages.

Some people, including motorists, took videos and pictures of the booze and posted them on social media. One of the videos shows people helping themselves to the beer without fear.
The source said there were suspicions that the load was not tied tight or the driver made the U-turn at a higher speed than he was supposed to.
