HOXIE, AR (KAIT) - Hoxie firefighters are working to build the infrastructure they need to battle fires as well as reduce the ISO rating for their department.

On Sunday, officials said they plan to purchase a new rescue pumper truck and that the department will be using its reimbursement to help buy the truck. The department is also looking to reduce its ISO rating from five to three. Casey Simmons, who is a firefighter in Hoxie, said the new equipment will help the department.

"It's going to have water on it, we're going to be able to use our jaws of life and all of our medical and rescue equipment all on one truck, instead of having to run two trucks at the same time," Simmons said.

The truck, which will cost around $15,000, is expected to be ready in the next several months. It also provides an opportunity for the firefighters to give back to the community.

"We can actually say we have one truck that is paid for by the volunteers. So, that is our truck and not city-owned and we can say we've been doing something putting back to our community," Simmons said.
