Following the tanker fire at the deplorable Eleme-Onne axis of the East-West road, a Youth group in Eleme community under the aegis of Aleto Youth Congress (AYC), has read the riot act to tanker and truck drivers plying the route.

The youths blamed the recent inferno, which claimed the lives of a pregnant woman and four others, to the recklessness and impatience of tanker drivers.

They warned that henceforth, any driver seen driving recklessly on the road would be arrested and handed over to the authorities for prosecution.

This is as they have commended the efforts of Indorama Petrochemicals limited for swiftly providing firefighters, who helped in reducing the spread of the inferno from further going into the Aleto and other communities.

The fire incident reportedly occurred along the entrance gate of the Fertilizer company and it was gathered that the firm immediately mobilised its fire trucks and servicemen to quelled the inferno.

It was also learned that Indorama provided cranes that successfully removed all the trucks from the road.

The Aleto Youths in a statement by the office of its President led by John Ebie, said they would no longer tolerate the uncouth manners of drivers who endanger the lives of other road users.

“All truck and tanker drivers must be parked at their designated parks. Any driver caught driving recklessly on the road will severely be dealt with and handed over to appropriate authorities.

“Any truck wrongly parked along the Aleto East-West road will be impounded by the Youth Council,” the group threatened.
They further commended everyone who played crucial roles during and after the outbreak.

Also, the Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, during a visit to the scene, charged road users to be law abiding and never drink while driving to avoid accidents and applauded those who assisted during the tragedy.
