Revenues of transport and logistics sector grow in Q2

Revenues of passenger transport, freight and logistics companies in Hungary reached HUF 1,241 billion in the second quarter, up 7.1% from the corresponding period a year earlier, a summary of data published by the Central Statistical Office (KSH) shows.

As reported by national news agency MTI, road haulage revenues climbed 6.5% to HUF 362 billion during the period. Trucks and lorries accounted for about 67% of the sectorʼs total 14.9 billion freight tonne kilometers in Q2.

Railways accounted for 18%, pipelines for 11%, and ships and barges for 3.7%.

Passenger transport companies carried 0.5% fewer passengers in Q2. The performance of the segment climbed 4.7%.

In long-distance passenger transport, companies sold 163 million fares during the period, down 1.9%. The performance of the segment rose 6.3% to 7.4 billion passenger kilometers, according to seasonally adjusted data. Airlinesʼ passenger numbers were up 16% during the period.

In terms of performance, buses accounted for 77% of the 7.4 billion passenger kilometers transport companies registered during the period. Railways accounted for 23%.

In the first half of 2017, the performance of freight transport companies climbed 3.1% from a year earlier.

In passenger transport, the number of passengers fell 0.8% from a year earlier, while performance rose 3.9%.
