The Parliament of Kazakhstan approved the ratification of the Agreement between the Governments of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan on international road transportation at the plenary meeting on Dec.20.

Minister for Investments and Development, Zhenis Kasymbek, speaking at the meeting, said that given the advantageous geographical position of Kazakhstan, the agreement with Azerbaijan contributes to the development of the country's transit potential and attraction of cargo flows with a view to create a large logistics hub in Central Asia.

"Today, road agreements have been concluded with 41 countries, this work continues. In 2016, the volume of cargo transportation by road between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan increased by 16 percent and amounted to 6,200 tons," he said.

The minister noted that the implementation of this agreement contributes to the further development of road transport between the two countries, as well as to the Kazakh-Azerbaijani trade and economic cooperation.

The agreement establishes legal norms for the implementation of road transport between the two countries, regulates the types of trucking and the procedure for establishing quotas for the exchange of permit forms.

The agreement was signed in Baku on April 3, 2017.
