SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A fundraiser in honor of a brave 9-year-old boy battling a rare disease is helping displaced families affected by fires.

Brandon Holmes suffers from numerous seizures a day and is in hospice care. As a tribute to him, his family set up a non-profit in his name.

This Friday evening, they put on a bingo night at the Eagles Club in Springfield to help those who have lost their homes due to fires or other disasters.

“I’ve seen a lot of families where they don’t have anywhere to go, there is no funds anywhere so their living in a car or their kids are living in the car,” said Brandon’s mom, Shanti Royland.

“Or trying to live in hotels and can’t afford to pay for the hotel costs and that’s hopefully what will come in and help them out a little bit At least try to get them a little bit further than where they are,” added Brandon father, Bob Holmes.

The hope after Friday night’s event is to raise nearly $2-thousand dollars. They will be doing a fundraiser for a different cause every month. Their next one is scheduled for May 10th and will benefit mothers in honor of Mother’s Day.
